ARMOR LUDWIG 20 INCH TIMPANI FRONT LOADING ROAD CASE

$1,950.00

This front loading road case is designed to safely transport a Ludwig 20 inch timpani, offering a practical solution for orchestral, touring, and performance environments. Built for professional use, the case allows the instrument to be loaded through a front hinged lid, reducing the need for awkward lifting and making handling easier for stage crews and musicians.

Timpani are precision instruments, and this case focuses on protecting both the drum and its tuning mechanism during transport. Foam padding inside the case helps keep the instrument secure, while the overall design remains truck friendly and stackable for efficient storage and transport. With a balance of protection and usability, this road case is suited to concert halls, touring orchestras, and production teams who need a reliable transport solution without unnecessary complexity.

Designed for Professional Orchestral Timpani Transport

This road case is designed specifically for transporting a Ludwig 20 inch timpani, a professional grade orchestral timpani known for its clear articulation, strong projection, and resonant copper bowl construction. As a precision percussion instrument, a timpani requires stable support and reliable protection during transport, particularly around the bowl, tuning mechanism, and pedal system. This case is built to hold one timpani securely, providing a dedicated transport solution for orchestras, touring ensembles, and performance venues.

While the internal layout is tailored for the Ludwig 20 inch timpani, other timpani of similar size and configuration may share comparable dimensions. In those situations, minor internal adjustments can be made to suit different timpani designs while maintaining the same overall case structure. This makes the design practical for professional environments that manage multiple timpani models while still prioritising instrument protection.

Durable Materials and Controlled Manufacturing Standards

The case is constructed using 12MM Weather and Boil Proof birch veneer laminated plywood. WBP plywood is manufactured from thin layers of premium hardwood bonded with phenolic resin glue, creating a panel that is strong, moisture resistant, and well suited to touring conditions. This construction helps the case withstand temperature changes and humidity variations that timpani are often exposed to during transport and storage.

The exterior face is finished with a high pressure laminate surface for improved resistance to wear, while the interior face is lined with PVC to support durability and ease of maintenance. All panels are precision cut using CNC machinery to ensure consistent fit and alignment across each timpani case. Assembly is carried out by trained technicians using Armor selected hardware, followed by a standard quality control process to confirm structural integrity, lid alignment, and hardware installation. This controlled manufacturing approach ensures consistent quality without unnecessary variation between builds.

Functional Features Focused on Ease of Handling

A key feature of this road case is its front hinged design, which allows the timpani to be loaded from the front rather than lifted vertically. This loading method reduces physical strain on musicians and stage crews and lowers the risk of damage to the timpani during handling, particularly in tight spaces or during fast changeovers. Front access also allows easier visibility and access during setup and pack down.

Foam padding inside the case is positioned to support the timpani securely, limiting movement during transport and helping absorb vibration and minor impacts. This internal support plays an important role in preserving tuning stability and overall performance condition, which is critical for orchestral timpani.

The case is fitted with heavy duty Armor hardware and reinforced extrusions to support repeated handling and stacking. Caster wheels allow smooth movement across stages, loading docks, and rehearsal spaces, while the overall footprint is designed to be truck friendly and stackable with other touring equipment.
